It is with great honour and deep pride that I introduce this commemorative hockey tour to Nairobi, Kenya, in celebration of the centenary of the Nairobi Sikh Union Hockey Club.Reaching a milestone of one hundred years is a remarkable achievement — one that reflects not only sporting excellence, but also the strength, resilience, and unity of a community bound by shared values and a love for the game of hockey. This tour stands as a tribute to that legacy, and as a bridge connecting generations and communities across the globe. When this idea was first conceived, it was driven by a desire to recognise and celebrate this historic occasion in a meaningful way. Today, that vision has become a reality, as we travel with a distinguished group of over 50 individuals. Together, we proudly represent a strong London Sikh Union team, alongside our over-50s side, the “Mosquitos,” whose enthusiasm and enduring passion for hockey exemplify the spirit of the sport at its very best. This visit is about far more than competition. It is about honouring history, renewing friendships, and strengthening the bonds that unite us as one global hockey family. It is an opportunity to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and inspire future generations to carry forward this proud tradition. On behalf of the entire touring party, I extend our sincere appreciation to the Nairobi Sikh Union Hockey Club for their warm hospitality and for allowing us to share in this historic celebration. We are privileged to be part of this momentous occasion and look forward to creating lasting memories both on and off the field.

I am truly honoured and excited to have been invited to be part of the Sikh Union of London coaching team for the upcoming tour to Nairobi. This special tour marks a historic occasion, commemorating 100 years of the Nairobi Sikh Union—a remarkable milestone celebrating a century of community, heritage, and sporting excellence.
As with all tours, special memories will be created and lasting friendships formed. This promises to be a fantastic experience for the players, who will not only enjoy the opportunity to compete but also embrace the unique challenges that playing at high altitude will bring.

I am excited to work with this group of talented young players. While bringing together a touring side from a variety of clubs can present its challenges, I am confident that we will quickly come together and develop a clear strategy to get the very best out of everyone.
On a personal note, this tour also provides me with the wonderful opportunity to rekindle my working relationship with Baldev Laly. We previously worked closely together in developing players within the Hampshire county system, and I look forward to collaborating once again in supporting the next generation of talent.
I would also like to make special mention of Ravinder Laly, a true legend of Kenyan hockey. I have had the privilege of playing both against him and alongside him—albeit a long time ago. He has been a key inspiration behind this tour, and while his expectations are understandably high, I am sure the group will rise to the occasion.
Lads, enjoy every moment of this experience, give your very best, and most importantly—let’s have fun.
Let the journey begin.

It also includes players from Fareham and Havant Hockey Clubs, two of the biggest clubs on the south coast of England, who have often been rivals over the years, but have joined together to help create this exciting and talented squad.

As an individual with years of experience working within the England and GB Hockey pathways, I bring a wealth of elite coaching experience to this Centenary Tournament. I am currently coaching at Marlow HC and Staines HC, having been instrumental in developing future stars for County and Talent Academies, as well as supporting athletes within the England Development Programme across various universities.
As the founder of D22 Hockey, a private hockey academy, I have built a proven track record of transitioning both boys and girls into the national talent pipeline. Our team of professional coaches, qualified with FIH and EH/GB Hockey, alongside bespoke goalkeeping coaching, is dedicated to developing the next generation of talented players—some of whom are now part of the Sikh Union London team competing in the tournament.
As I return to Kenya for the second time, to the very club where I once played before moving to the UK, I am proud to represent London Sikh Union and the Mosquito hockey team. I look forward to sharing technical insights, officiating at the highest standard, and helping to foster the next generation of global hockey talent throughout this tournament.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Sikh Union Nairobi Club for their warm hospitality in welcoming us to the tournament. May the best team win.
